Join us for “The Racing Line” as we connect the past, present, and future of motor racing, technology, and entertainment. To this end, and to tie in with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance featured class of 1990s BPR and FIA GT race cars, the panel will discuss racing legacy, the current resurgence in the sport, future innovation, and the influence of streaming content, and ask whether the sport is doing enough to win new audiences. 

Discussions will be led by driver and media host Justin Bell, featuring insights from John Doonan, President of IMSA, Ian McPherson, Global Strategy Leader at AWS, Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer at Automobili Lamborghini, Amy Anderson, Consultant at NASCAR, and Michael McDonagh, Director McLaren Special Operations & Motorsport at McLaren. Justin Bell – Moderator

Justin is a successful second-generation World Champion race car driver from England who has now made a vibrant transition to a second career as a TV and web host. In a racing career that spanned 25 years Justin won the 1997 FIA GT World Championship and the 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours, as well as numerous victories and podium finishes in many forms of the sport. He has worked as a broadcaster for Speed, Fox, and NBC on the IMSA and Le Mans races and various auction shows, but his real passion is in creating and hosting shows such as Shut Up and Drive and Drives Unexpected. As partner in Torque Media Group, one of the most in-demand production companies in the industry, Justin co-hosts the livestream for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance—and working with brands such as McLaren, Genesis, Ferrari, Jaguar Land Rover and others, he is the face of many branded content campaigns. He also has his own chat show, the podcast Life with Legends, where he sits down and shares great conversations with his heroes. Most recently, he has partnered with The Wynn in Las Vegas to host Drive to Wynn!, a weekly show all about Formula One.

John Doonan – President of IMSA

As IMSA President, John Doonan is responsible for the day-to-day operation of this organization, which sanctions seven different racing series in North America, including its flagship IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Doonan joined IMSA in October 2019 after nearly 17 years with Mazda North American Operations, where he most recently served as the company’s director of motorsports. Doonan also was a member of the board of directors for the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in Daytona Beach, Florida, and has served as the organization’s chairman of the board. A lifelong motorsports enthusiast and native of the Chicago area, he attended his first race at Road America when he was just six weeks old.

Doonan earned his MBA from Western Illinois University after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Marketing, Advertising and Spanish from Augustana College. He was a development officer for Augustana for nearly 10 years before joining Mazda in 2003.

Ian McPherson – Global Strategy Leader at AWS

Ian is the AWS global strategy leader for AI and Analytics in the Media, Entertainment, Games, and Sports (MEGS) industries. During his 10 years at AWS he has worked extensively with AWS customers and its ecosystem of partners to deliver transformative content and fan experiences. Ian brings more than 25 years of experience in media, entertainment, and telecommunications in executive marketing, product management, and business development roles. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Cal Poly, and a Master’s degree in Communication from Annenberg School at the University of Southern California.

Rouven Mohr – Chief Technical Officer at Automobili Lamborghini

Rouven Mohr was born in 1979 in Saarbrücken, Germany. After an engineering degree at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and a PHD in Numerical Mechanics, he joined Audi in 2008 within the R&D Department as Testing Engineer for Chassis Durability, before gaining increasing responsibility until his appointment in 2014 as Head of Project Management Whole Vehicle for Audi A3, TT, Q7 and Q8 models. In 2017 he moved to Lamborghini, where he spent two years as Head of Whole Vehicle Development, overseeing the development of the Aventador, Huracán and Urus models, before returning to Audi as Head of Energy and Weight-Management. Lastly, in 2020 he was appointed Head of Verification/Validation Whole Vehicle, an experience that he now completes with a return to Lamborghini as Chief Technical Officer.

Amy Anderson – Consultant at NASCAR

As the founder and CEO of Sidecar Media, Amy leverages her vast experience in sports media to continue to set new standards and devise engaging content and forward-thinking strategies for her clients like NASCAR Event Experience, Corey LaJoie Racing, and OrthoCarolina Motorsports. With over two decades of experience, Amy has set new benchmarks in fan engagement and brand exposure. Her tenure at NASCAR and FOX Sports has been characterized by groundbreaking initiatives and strategic content development that have significantly enhanced fan engagement and broadened the outreach of brands. Amy's leadership was instrumental in the establishment of NASCAR Studios, pushing the boundaries of content innovation, and her direction led to the creation of influential brand partnerships with the FOX Sports Content Studio.

Michael McDonagh – Director McLaren Special Operations & Motorsport at McLaren

Michael McDonagh is an accomplished leader with extensive experience in leading large teams on a global scale in multiple environments. He is an expert in programme management, product design, product launch, and budget management. He has held several key positions at McLaren Automotive Ltd in Woking, UK, including Director Special Operations & Motorsport, Executive Vehicle Line Director, and Director Vehicle Engineering, Technology & Programme Planning. He was responsible for managing all bespoke and private commission cars, supporting VIP clients, and managing GT4 and GT3 Motorsport activities. Before joining McLaren, Michael worked at Ford Motor Company in various roles, including Global Transit Chief Programme Engineer and Global Cargo Chief Programme Engineer. He led the Ford Global Transit ‘Mid-cycle’ programmes and was responsible for overseeing all engineering for the Ford Cargo Heavy Truck. Michael holds a BS Eng (Hons) 1st class in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of East London and a Diploma of Management Studies from Henley Management College. He is also a Chartered Engineer of the Institute of Electrical Engineers. His work has been featured in Autosport and Fleet Transport. He is currently working to bring McLaren back to Le Mans for the first time in 27 years.

 Attendees may not photograph, film, tape, or aid in transmitting, in whole or part, any image or video of this event without the prior written consent of Pebble Beach Company (PBC). Unmanned aerial vehicles are expressly prohibited. Violators will be prosecuted.
