Friday, August 14, 2026 2:00PM
Moderated by Donald Osborne with Jay Leno, Adolfo Orsi, Paul Russell, and Wayne Carini
The most long-established organization for the protection, preservation, and promotion of historic vehicles, the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA), came together with the world’s pre-eminent concours event, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, in 1999 to celebrate originality and preservation in historic vehicles outside of museums. This partnership has served to educate collectors, restorers, enthusiasts, and the public about the importance of caring for and sharing historic vehicles as a part of our cultural heritage.
As the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance celebrates its 75th gathering and FIVA its 60th anniversary, join us as a panel of passionate enthusiasts come together in spirited conversation about how this alignment has led to a sea change in the approach to collecting vehicles around the world—and what are the implications and possibilities for the future.
Donald Osborne - Moderator
Donald W. Osborne, ASA, is one of America’s most distinctive and respected voices in the world of classic automobiles. A historian, appraiser, consultant, and television personality, he has spent decades illuminating the artistry, engineering, and cultural significance of cars. Donald gained widespread public recognition as a regular contributor and co-host on Jay Leno’s Garage, where his expert insights and charming wit made the nuances of automotive history accessible to a wide audience. Off screen, he has served as a judge at the world’s most prestigious concours events, including the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and works as an accredited appraiser, helping collectors and institutions understand and preserve their treasures. Beyond his professional achievements, Donald is a passionate advocate for seeing cars as more than transportation. To him, they are rolling works of art, embodiments of their eras, and vessels of human creativity. His written work—including books, essays, and columns—captures this vision, inviting readers to view automobiles not just as objects, but as stories. Today, in his additional role as FIVA Representative North America, he stands at the intersection of scholarship, performance, and passion.
Jay Leno
Jay Leno is an acclaimed late night TV host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children's book author and philanthropist, often called "the hardest working man in show business". He hosted "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" for two decades, never losing a ratings year, and produces weekly episodes of “Jay Leno’s Garage” which explores the world of cars and their stories. Beyond television, he performs over 100 stand-up shows annually and is active in charity and corporate events. He also writes several automotive columns and launched Jay Leno's Garage Advanced Vehicle Care. Leno has received numerous honors, including Emmy and People's Choice awards, and a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Mavis who is a human rights activist.
Adolfo Orsi
Adolfo Orsi developed his passion for motorcars as a teen when his family owned Maserati. A historian of Italian motorsport, a collector car expert, and a staunch preservation advocate, he has coordinated the restoration of many significant Italian cars and curated numerous exhibitions. Since 1994 he has authored the Classic Car Auction Yearbook, the reference publication in the industry. He has also served as Chief Class Judge of the FIVA Awards at the Pebble Beach Concours since their inception in 1999, and as Chief Judge of the Ferrari 60th and 70th celebrations, Lamborghini’s 50th, Maserati’s 100th, Uniques Special Ones, Concours Suisse, Salon Privé and, most recently, the Anantara Concorso Roma. He is also part of the Judging Panel of The Peninsula Best of the Best Award.
Paul Russell
Paul Russell and Company has been specializing in the preservation of 1960s and earlier European classics since 1978. A small company of twenty-eight craftsmen and support staff apply their mechanical, upholstery, body, coachbuilding, and materials-selection experience on Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Porsche, Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, and other fine European collectibles. They consider themselves to be caretakers of automotive history. Their attention to detail has resulted in over 50 Best of Show honors at various concours. Paul’s personal passion is to honor the construction details of the original designers. As a hands-on owner and manager, he inspires his craftsmen to preserve and replicate, whenever feasible, the period construction techniques and authentic details to the extent that the next generation of custodians can see the car as it was originally conceived and built. Paul has been a Chief Class Judge at Pebble Beach, the Cavallino Classic, The Amelia, Salon Privé and other concours. He is the National Advisory Board Chair for the McPherson College Automotive Restoration Program and an active member of the International Chief Judge Advisory Group (ICJAG) and the International Advisory Council for the Preservation of the Ferrari Automobile (IAC/PFA). In 2016 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Applied Arts from McPherson College.
Wayne Carini
Master restorer Wayne Carini is renowned for the award-winning work at his F40 workshop, but for the past 18 years he has also been internationally recognized for his television show Chasing Classic Cars. Carini was born into the restoration business, with his father Bob founding the Model A Restorers Club in 1951, the year Wayne was born. Eight years later, Wayne was sanding cars at his father’s shop—and he hasn’t stopped since. Ferraris got into his blood at the age of 10, when, while on vacation in the Catskills, he went for a ride in a 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB and was forever hooked. He has had the honor of subsequently restoring six examples of this model, and today it remains his favorite car. In July 2006, an article about Carini’s pursuit of a rare Hudson Italia appeared in The New York Times. The next day, he was contacted by Jim Astrausky, the owner of Essex TV, a production company looking for automobile-related content for the Discovery Channel. The rest is history, as Wayne’s program Chasing Classic Cars went on to become one of the world’s most popular automotive TV shows, broadcast in over 100 countries. Today, Wayne is involved in multiple aspects of the classic car world. He frequently serves as a judge or Grand Marshal at top automotive events everywhere. Most recently, Wayne has partnered with Speedvision and will soon begin filming a new series about unique cars and the interesting people who own them.
