69th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Poster (Main Event)

Artist: Alfredo De la Maria
Size: 25"x 34"

Featured Car: The 1931 Bentley 8 Litre Vanden Plas

To celebrate the centenary of Bentley Motors, Alfredo De la Maria beautifully portrays the early morning excitement of Dawn Patrol at Pebble Beach as this dramatic 1931 Bentley 8 Litre Vanden Plas rolls on to the 18th fairway to face its competition. This unique 8 Litre is the only one built at the Bentley factory specifically to race. Its striking body took another year to build at the Vanden Plas coachworks in London for its first owner, Captain Vivian Hewitt, who took delivery in May 1932.

De la Maria was born in Uruguay in 1945 and studied art and architecture at the Bellas Artes School in Montevideo. At age 18, before he turned to automotive subjects, De la Maria illustrated political and sporting events for a leading Uruguayan newspaper. He became well known for his equestrian paintings after an exhibition of his work was held in the city of Punta del Este. His paintings of naval and aviation subjects were also much in demand. At 21, Alfredo moved to Paris where he was inspired by the classical paintings by France’s Claude Monet and Spain’s Joaquín Sorolla. Returning to South America in the 1970s, to work for a large publishing company in Buenos Aires, he became enthusiastic about automotive art, and in 1989, the first of many exhibitions of his automotive pictures was held at the Buenos Aires Classic Car Club. We are honored to feature his distinctive style of impressionistic realism on the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance poster.
